Greece – Santorini | June 2014
Bask in the Grecian sunset with me.
Santorini - A Dream! I first saw Santorini in the movie Chalte Chalte. (Who knows this Shahrukh Khan movie?) Little did I know that one day I would be celebrating a very special occasion there. Among all the Greek Islands that will take weeks and probably months to explore, Santorini is the one not to be missed. With habitation perched on the cliffs of a volcanic caldera, the most stunning sunsets and amazing Greek food - Santorini is on my Forever Top Ten List.
Itinerary
Day 1: Take the ferry or fly from Athens to Santorini.
Day 2: Explore the towns of Fira, Oia & Imerovigli.
Day 3: Explore Kamari - Black Beach, Open Air Cinema, Wine Tours.
Day 4: Volcanic Caldera Catamaran sailing tour with hot spring bath.
Day 5: Red Beach and Akrotiri. Visit the archaeological site in Akrotiri consisting of the ruins of an old village.
Day 6: Dinner on the edge of the cliff - Andronis Hotel.
Day 7: Sunset in Oia.
Tip
Santorini will spoil you with choice when it comes to cliff side caldera cave hotels. Definitely stay in one with an infinity pool. Try to watch the sunset from your hotel rooftop or even better a private patio. Oia is my favorite place to watch it. However, I would avoid the Castle in Oia as it gets very crowded there. The Red Beach is pretty rocky so don’t expect to lounge. Instead, wear proper footwear.
For food, head over to Lucky’s Souvlaki (I am still dreaming of it) and Ammoudi Fish Taverna. Enjoy a cliff side dinner at Andronis Hotel and try out Saganaki (Fried cheese in filo pastry covered in honey).
